US border agents acted in self defence

I am hearing on my AM radio news sources that this incident(and another one less than two weeks ago which resulted in the death of an illegal attempting a recrossing)is being condemned by entire Mexican nation, and there is widespread fury in Mexico over these two incidents. Funny, there seems to be little MSM coverage in USA. Maybe due to our election coverage.
I suspect that the mostly left-leaning MSM news pundits, especially in the big city dailys, will not run with this story because it would really inflame and harden American citizen's attitudes against illegal immigration,which are already inflamed by the Arizona SB1070 fight, and it would be detrimental to the Democrats in a tough election year to be caught up in a major US-Mexico border embroglio. So far there is almost complete silence on these incidents, though from what i have heard Mexico is in an uproar over this.

Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereka was shot once near the eye as U.S. Border Patrol agents on bicycles were "assaulted with rocks" as they tried to detain illegal immigrants on the Texas side of the Rio Grande."

Update: It appears that the MSM is now jumping on this incident, and already the left wing biased MSM such as CNN, and the usual civil rights groups such as ACLU are condemning US border patrol over this incident.
I have looked carefully at this incident and the pictures of the scene. From the pics i have shown above it appears the US border fence is on far side of an almost dry and easily crossable Rio Grande, atop the concrete-lined levee, meaning that the rock throwing Mexican nationals could throw rocks at the border agents all way up to far side of Rio Grande and right up to the levee fence, and still be technically on Mexican soil.
The US border agents attacked were holding 2 captured illegal aliens, apparently on the levee inclined wall close to the border fence, which means they appeared to be technically on Mexican side of fence. No matter, the rock throwers had a clear line of sight as there is no bush anywhere. From the pics the US agents were out in the open and exposed, making them clear targets of the rock throwers.

Point is, if you were being attacked with rocks by illegal aliens while attempting to capture and detain illegal border crossers, you have the right and duty to defend yourself with any means necessary, even to using deadly force. What were our border agents suppose to do, stand there and accept being pelted with rocks, which if one hits your head could severely main or even kill you!
